Promoted professional growth by encouraging staff to pursue promotions and facilitating their access to available opportunities.
Instituted combined sports and academic recognition events to motivate students to achieve excellence in both intellectual and athletic pursuits.
Provided mentorship to teachers and students, fostering leadership development through targeted workshops, refresher courses, and seminars.
Established a robust Career Guidance Department to strategically support students in planning their academic and professional trajectories beyond Kibuli Secondary School.
Initiated end-of-year celebratory events to acknowledge and reward outstanding academic achievements, reinforcing a culture of excellence.
Improving Infrastructure:
Spearheaded the construction of the Nuhu Mbogo Masjid through mobilization of resources and support from well-wishers, enhancing the school’s spiritual and community infrastructure.
Erected a perimeter wall fence around the school to strengthen security measures and prevent unauthorized encroachment.
Developed staff housing, specifically the Matovu Apartments, to facilitate closer proximity for staff-learner engagement and consultation.
Upgraded and tarmacked the parents’ parking area, girls’ walkway, and internal pathways, promoting cleanliness and improving campus accessibility.
Renovated boys’ dormitories with new tiling and expanded sanitation facilities to enhance hygiene standards.
Constructed a dedicated wall fence around the A-Level block to ensure student privacy and reinforce security protocols.
Undertook comprehensive renovations of key institutional facilities, including the main hall, library, classrooms, staff kitchen, and dining areas, thereby improving functionality and learning environments.
Enhanced access roads to staff quarters and implemented additional security checkpoints to strengthen campus safety.
Designed and implemented a clear organizational chart, empowering administrative staff with decision-making authority and promoting effective governance.
Promotion of Culture and Religion
Dr. Matovu has actively advanced cultural and religious values within the school community through a series of strategic initiatives. He instituted a dress code for female students that aligns with prayer practices, fostering integrity, dignity, and respect for the girl child. He spearheaded Dawah programs, including Quranic recitation, religious classes (darasas), prayers, and supplications (duas), facilitated by the recruitment of full-time sheikhs. Under his leadership, KOSA was revitalized, and the school’s 68th anniversary was celebrated to strengthen alumni engagement. Furthermore, he reinforced partnerships between the school and key Islamic foundation bodies, such as UMEA and UMTA, thereby extending mentorship and religious guidance to Muslim communities nationwide. Additionally, he introduced structured beginning- and end-of-term duas, embedding spiritual reflection into the academic calendar.
Marketing and Publicity:
- Linked the school internationally through the British Council to schools in the UK and other African countries
- Publicized the school by emphasizing a green environment through clubs like connecting classrooms by planting flowers, grass, and trees
- Organized inter-school staff visits to improve networking with sister schools and benchmarking the best practices
- Created an annual school calendar for planning purposes and shared it with parents at the beginning of the year
- Stopped coaching within the school and introduced free consultation programs instead
Honoring Founders:
- Honored the works of the founders, The Late Prince Badru Kakungulu, the Late Hajj Ramdhan Gava, and the former Head teachers by placing their portraits in the main hall
These achievements show that Kibuli Secondary School has made significant progress in improving infrastructure, academic excellence, promoting culture and religion, improving student welfare, marketing and publicity, and promoting sports.
Improving Student Welfare:
- Awarded scholarships to needy and bright learners to enable them to obtain education they may not have access to otherwise
- Introduced staff welfare and health schemes to improve both staff and students’ welfare in terms of healthcare, accommodation, and feeding
- Encouraged young staff to upgrade their educational qualifications and go for Hajj and Umra pilgrimage
- Encouraged young staff by rendering both moral and financial support
- Introduced contracts, interviews, and annual for all those who were not on the government payroll
Promoting Sports:
- Emphasized sports alongside academics, rendering support by awarding scholarships
- Became the center of sports excellence, winning several trophies over the years and becoming the champions in the National football for the year 2014
- Represented the country for the East African tournament and reached the finals with St. Mary’s Kitende, though they were defeated
- Introduced appropriate sports wear for girls
